While there are hundreds of worthy projects across the state, the Foundation made strategic grants to those organizations most aligned with our mission. We focused on geographic and ethic diversity, sustainability, and long term goals and objectives, as well as the organization&rsquo;s ability to measure and track results.This past year, the Charte [...] ]]></description><content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class="paragraph" style="text-align:left;"><font color="#515151" size="3"><strong><span style="font-weight:400">It has certainly been a year of transition for many. Due to the uncertainty of continued federal funding, requests for grants increased dramatically. While there are hundreds of worthy projects across the state, the Foundation made strategic grants to those organizations most aligned with our mission. We focused on geographic and ethic diversity, sustainability, and long term goals and objectives, as well as the organization&rsquo;s ability to measure and track results.</span></strong><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-weight:400">This past year, the Chartercare Foundation provided funds to prevent teen suicide, provide free dental care, mental health counseling for victims of abuse, wellness programs for disabled adults, brain health for seniors, material child health programs, dental residency training, and healthy foods for disadvantaged communities, among others. We also provided 43 scholarships for RI students pursuing healthcare careers. We are pleased to share that our grants had a total positive impact on over 2,300 Rhode Islanders.</span></strong><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-weight:400">We also awarded quality of life grants to young RI women undergoing cancer treatments. The Isabella Dora Corcelli Memorial Fund provided laptops, wigs, spa visits, and other experiences to help during their cancer journey. We are sad to report that we lost one of our recipients recently; but take comfort&nbsp; knowing that most of our recipients are in remission.</span></strong><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-weight:400">As we move forward in 2026, we will continue to support the healthcare and education needs of the RI community, while maintaining the integrity of our donors&rsquo; intent. And she has cancer.<br />Diagnosed when she was just 18 with Osteosarcoma Bone Cancer, Carrigan has undergone two failed<br />limb salvage surgeries and ultimately above the knee amputation 3 years ago. She has endured over 20<br />surgeries including 3 extensive thoracotomies (lung surgeries) and a life saving surgery last February<br />when a lime sized tumor was removed from my pericardium - a portion of which was removed along<br />with part of my diaphragm, phrenic nerve and lower lobe.<br /><br />She has been on chemotherapy since the diagnosis and will remain on chemo indefinitely as the cancer<br />has metastasized to her lungs. She continues to sing locally at fundraisers even with cancer in both<br />lungs, and is currently working with a vocal coach to work around the challenges presented by cancer,<br />the lung surgeries and chemo.<br /><br />Ever the warrior, she is an avid pediatric cancer advocate and encourages other young people who are<br />going through the same journey. She is also taking piano lessons, and shares her voice to entertain and<br />spread awareness of pediatric cancer. She is a &ldquo;dog mom&rdquo; of two dachshunds (Mr. Toffee and Malibu)<br />and enjoys arts and crafts.<br /><br />The&nbsp;<a href="https://www.chartercarefoundation.org/corcelli-fund.html" target="_blank">Isabella Dora Corcelli Memorial Fund</a> awards grant to young RI women battling cancer for &ldquo;quality<br />of life&rdquo; experience.
