On September 21st, 2017, grant and scholarship recipients gathered for the second annual Chartercare Foundation grantees’ reception in downtown Providence. Agencies receiving grants from the Foundation this past year were present to talk about the progress of their programs, including Thundermist Health Center, WellOne Primary Care, RI Quality Institute, St. Clare Home, and St. Mary’s Home for Children. In addition, several nursing scholarship recipients attended, as well as Melissa Thomas, who thanked the Foundation on behalf of her son Peter, a URI nursing student.
“The inaugural event in 2016 was so well-received that we decided to make it an annual celebration of the good work being done in the community,” said Paula Iacono, Executive Director. Also present were members of the Chartercare Board of Directors and representatives from the RI Foundation. A welcome – if unanticipated – benefit was the interaction between agencies and the discovery of collaboration opportunities. “Definitely a win-win,” remarked Susan DeRita, development director at St. Mary’s.
